Community gratitude

Deputy Commander Col Gosney with Mayoress of Gütersloh, Frau Maria Unger at the annual Gütersloh Garrison cocktail partyColonel Peter Gosney Deputy Commander, Gütersloh Garrison hosted the annual garrison cocktail party at the Officers’ Mess, Princess Royal Barracks recently.

The event, which is staged in order for members of the garrison to collectively thank members of the community for their continued support during our presence here in Germany.

All branches of the community were represented, from commerce/banking and politics through to local vets, even the owner of Bar Celona.

All of which are essential in making members of the garrison’s day-to-day living that bit more enjoyable. Without these people time here in Germany would be much tougher, and events like this really help bring everyone together.

Col Gosney said: “Events like this are hugely important for the community. Our German hosts look after us very well and we have to repay our thanks to the community.

“Events like this are worth their weight in gold. It’s a thank you to the local community.”

Frau Unger, Mayoress of Gütersloh, added: “The current British-German relationship within Gütersloh is very strong.

“I am very happy about our British connections, and events like this cocktail party are very important for us to meet our British friends.”

Frau Unger also attended last week’s Bollywood party (Organised by 1AAC’s Pam Flora), which was also a great success and helped raise money for under privileged families.

Finishing off the evening, to rapturous applause, was the Band of the Irish Guards, who played several stunning pieces of music, rounding off the event nicely by playing both countries’ national anthems.
